The word on Jackson Street has long been to hit the road and move to Australia. But like anything, timing is always under the influence of life and what it presents. The part about traveling the world was more of a long term plan, for retirement, when we were a part of the young old.
MJ’s brother-in-law, Greg, said many years ago that “If you are going to move, pick a date. Don’t wait for everything to be ‘right’ for a move… or you’ll never leave”. Which sounds so simple, but is one of the hardest things to decide on and commit to. Namely because you want at least some things to be ‘right’! The more stars aligned the better… or so we thought.
But things change and life happens. As we have found: the motivators are not a matter of things having the ‘right’ timing but of ‘needs’ for something. Those somethings for us seem to be:
- The need for big change
- The need to see and do more before we age more
- The need to reconsider our longevity
- The need to reset and build forward on the things we discovered reflect and define us
All of this came to a threshold in Fall of 2016. Faced with health challenges and struggling with life momentum at times, we discussed a lot of the concepts around that time for taking this direction, those being the ‘who what where when and why’. The ‘how’ was the problem:
- How could we sell it all?
- How could we leave with the absolute minimum for the maximum ease?
- How would each of us align to a specific date?
- How would we decide the path and the sequence of travel?
- How do you do this sort of thing?
The answer is: You’ll work it out if you want it.
