BUCKET LIST: Month Nine

By MJ + PJ

BUCKETED: Month Nine – Tunisia and Portugal (February 2nd to March 1st 2019)

We had a few days in Twickenham and then Worcester to end our circuit of the United Kingdom and Ireland before heading to Tunisia.

Tunisia was a somewhat off the cuff and unexpected decision, but we stayed two weeks there (on the advice of some friends) having a vacation within our vacation. We had to delay our arrival in the EU nation that have the Schengen visa as you only get 90 days per 180 days and we had to time our Europe exit carefully. Our Europe entry point was Porto, Portugal, where we rounded out the month and was a place we really, really loved.

We only had two flights this month. The majority of our transport was by walking, by tour bus or van, or by train. We did have a nearly two hour taxi ride from Sousse to Tunis, which was the most advised way to get there since we were not a part of a tour package.

Cost wise this month we did really well… besides the seven bookings for accommodation over the coming few months which we chose to do ahead of time. This was to ensure we had options and secured somewhere to stay in the Spring months. Although our average is listed as $223/day, if you take out the $3000 we spent on future accommodations the daily average was $116/day for the month of February. About 68% of our days were on or under budget this month which is close to our trip average. Again, this percentage was skewed by the accommodation purchases.
