BUCKET LIST: Month Thirteen

By: MJ + PJ

BUCKETED: Month Thirteen – Cambodia and Australia (June 2nd to July 7th, 2019)

It was a quick stop in Asia it turns out. Although we had sketched out plans to head to Singapore, then Perth and Tasmania, we changed course and headed to Brisbane – familiar territory and time to weigh up the year that was behind us rather than press on.

We paid for our flights to Australia in June, and borrowed a car and stayed in private accommodations once in Australia, so our expenses were quite low this month. This expense total ($1795 for the month) was similar but not quite as low as our first month when we drove around the western and central USA. At that time we used private homes and camping mostly for accommodation type, and had an absence of flight costs. We averaged $20 per person a day this month, well under the $50 target.

Day 400 was only a week into Month 14, and that is the date on which we decided that we needed to “stop” and, sadly, call an end to our adventure. This would enable at least one semester of ‘traditional’ school for AJ in a stable location, and buy us some time to establish some personal infrastructure for the transition to living in Australia.

Once we have collated and examined all of our data for the months and regions more specifically to the countries we visited, we will summarize it in a separate post covering the whole year. In the interim, please look at our 365 DATA page for a preview.

At this point we hit day 400 since leaving Loveland, and so called the trip officially ended. We had spent the last week of the month exploring areas where we might live and catching up with friends along the way.

Australia is our final destination, as we had stated and planned before we started. We will continue to travel intermittently and will be adding plenty of photos and posts as we play catchup over the next few months. Expect a few summaries and reflections amongst the posts as we tie up a fascinating 13 months traveling the world.

We will also be adding information that dives deeper into our 365 DATA resource to provide more insight to budgeting and planning for your own adventures!

Stay tuned!
