PREPARATION: Communication on the road

By: MJ + PJ

The current state of the world is that we are very connected to each other via the World Wide Web. Most developed regions have quite accessible Internet, found in the smallest random settlements to the metropolis cities. Less developed regions, less so. But the need for connection is not continuous, so that is not a requisite on our travel list.

Telecommunications with a mobile or cellular device will likely be less reliable for coverage, but are also less needed on a trip like this. Spotty coverage can be a good thing! It is nice to be disconnected from the grid and to separate one’s self from constant communication and distraction. That said, those conversations and times spent directly talking with family and friends are very important.

While we will continue to maintain our usual personal channels to a limited extent, we will clearly be most accessible via this website and associated social media during this adventure. See the links at the top of our website for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and email.

One favor: We will be disconnected the majority of the time, so we ask for patience in our reply to your online interactions. You may comment 20 minutes after we have just posted something, but then we jump on a plane, or leave on a backcountry expedition for a week, or are on a remote farm for a few days, or are in a less reliably connected region.

This site will be the hub of our adventure! When we post in a flurry of activity after being silent for a while, you can guarantee there will be plenty to read about!
