BUCKETED: Month Ten – Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, & Austria (March 2nd to April 1st, 2019)
After exiting Portugal at the turn of the month we spent almost three weeks in Spain. Then we headed north to quickly explore Belgium and the Netherlands, before slowing the pace once we were in Austria.
If you take a scroll down this list you will see that we were quite busy! We had been to Spain about 11 years ago, but we still had things to see… and things we wanted to see again.
We did not fly at all this month, but utilized a Eurail Pass to get us around these European countries by train. Even though we did not set foot in an airport, we covered about 6400km. We also did a lot of walking – PJ’s Garmin logged about 559,766 steps for the month (>18,000/day)… but AJ gets credit for more than that since his legs are shorter!
Our spending was over by about $8/person/day, which is pretty close to our target. Our transport by rail was covered by the pass we purchased in December, and we had paid ahead on our accommodations for the most part.
By the end of the month we had reached a few big milestones: 300 days of travel, and a distance equivalent to two laps around Earth!

April 11, 2019 at 11:42amLoved Sevilla ! We learn so much on the walking tours !
Lost my ticket for park Guiel so that was unfortunate but Sagrada was totally amazing . We bought a poster of it ;it’s framed & hanging in our living room . Had an exchanged student years ago from Belgium . We have been there & she & family come here . It’s now extended to the next generation as Max has also visited her family . She has a son same age as Max !
I think you should go into tour guiding !!
Have fun !

April 12, 2019 at 1:14amSevilla was a gem of a place. Bummer about your Park Guell ticket. Were they still renovating the park while you were there?
We absolutely loved Belgium! It is so awesome that Max is able to visit and travel internationally. What a wonderful opportunity for him.
Us, tour guides? Hmmmm. Maybe. If were passionate enough about the place! 😉
