So how do you do this sort of thing? Hopefully on these pages you will be able to find some answers to that question. We thought it would be more useful to show you the direct experience we had and translate it into this section on our website.
Our goal with this entire website is to help ordinary families envision and plan extraordinary adventures by sharing and explaining our approach. We can’t say we will do it ideally, but we will try our darndest to see the world for what it is wherever we go.
It is easy to be overwhelmed trying to plan a trip like this, with all the resources and options that you can potentially find and read and use. It can be an excuse to not even continue. Treat your planning and experience as unique, and like your suitcase – only pack what you need and intend to use.
Seek our insight more than our advice. Absorb our determination more than our path. Hence, this is not a “get it all here” resource section. This is an example of how little materially you will actually need to rely on.
Beyond selling accumulations of things, each long term trip that is planned is a one-of-a-kind and requires unique planning. The big considerations that influence your trip are: world events, personal finances, family events, friend events, political climate, age of children, health considerations, age limitations, physical ability considerations, and motivation.
What is unavoidable, is setting a departure date. Once that is set get ready for the ‘pre-adventure’! It’s a whole lot of excitement, intrigue, stress and emotion… but it’s the ticket to ride.
We are not done yet! There are other common variables to deal with in planning this type of venture. To reduce post length and navigate easier, we have split them up – follow the buttons below. (For a specific topic you can either see our site map or use the search box that appears after the main content of each page.)
